Unfortunately, in reality, fiber is not nearly as ubiquitous as would be required for a full fronthaul network. Even in the best of cases, fiber may be present to the curb, but may not be economically available to the rooftop, pole, or towertop where the RRH/RRU needs to be deployed.

MWC 2012 Preview: EBlink collaborates with Alcatel-Lucent to boost market adoption of the wireless remote radio head


EBlink has announced a strategic collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent to offer its wireless remote radio head (RRH) technology, which eliminates the need for coaxial cables or short-range fibre optics on base stations. Alcatel-Lucent will position the E-Blink Wireless RRH portfolio to mobile telecoms operator customers throughout the world.
